Acting as an individual contributor of a cross-functional R&D team, this member of the Mechanical Engineering organization will carry out tasks related to the development of a next-generation, automated, blood analysis device which is still in its design infancy. Under the general direction of senior engineering personnel, this team member will be specifically responsible for the design and automation of electro-mechanical fluidic breadboard assemblies to support feasibility studies. This team member will support the testing and analysis of subsystem breadboard performance related to fluid-handling and robotic mechanical component system controls. These breadboard feasibility studies will lead to full-scale product design and development by this candidate within a fast-paced product development atmosphere. Automation of electro-mechanical systems will be achieved via programming of simple microcontroller-based prototypes. Mechanical component prototypes will be created via 3D CAD design for fabrication with traditional machining and 3D printing as well as through hands-on prototyping. With moderate latitude for self-direction, this team member will translate breadboard design and analyses from feasibility into concepts with manufacturing and production intent.
Performs engineering assignments under the general direction of senior project leaders.
Upholds group and industry standards in the design and drafting of mechanical subcomponents. Designs and develops moderately complex components and sub-assemblies
Analyses system functionality and prepares engineering specifications in order to fulfil design requirements.
Analyses sources of design variation including mechanical tolerance stack-up calculations.
Analyses sources of output variability including the quality of feedback such as contributions from sensor repeatability and reproducibility. Hosts appropriate design & peer reviews of new designs and analyses Maintains a detailed engineering notebook

Skills & Capabilities: Problem Solving, Detail Oriented, Time Management, Teamwork, Experience with the following: Programming (Python or C++ preferred) System Controls & Dynamics Robotics/Mechatronics CAD systems (Creo a plus) Statistical Analysis a plus
Min Knowledge & Experience required for the position:
B. S. in Engineering and a minimum of 7 years experience related to the areas given above or suitable equivalent combination of education and experience.
