We are looking for a highly talented and self-driven R&D PROCESS ENGINEER to join our fast-paced multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists developing mid-to-high volume consumables for a new diagnostic product. Job Description: The focus of this position is on R&D process development WITH EMPHASIS ON MANUFACTURING INTEGRATION.

The candidate will develop manufacturing processes for new products and define new capital equipment requirements to meet operational needs. This individual will also work closely with the product team by providing design for manufacturability feedback to ensure successful concurrent engineering processes. Candidate will assess design concepts and approaches and provide manufacturability feedback and automation application. Candidate will also be required to manage internal and external resources to produce comprehensive and scalable automation equipment.

The candidate will assess competing manufacturing processes objectively & recommend optimized solutions. Candidates contributions will extend beyond identification of capital equipment requirements and will include identification of potential manufacturing process as well as process control plans.

Responsibilities: Develop and improve R&D processes for manufacturing for increased quality, productivity, efficiency and cost savings Investigate and troubleshoot quality and performance issues and recommending solutions Manage documentation required for manufacturing i.e. revise drawing, BOM, accurate work instructions and workmanship standards and process procedures Identify ways to reduce costs through recommendations - i.e. new process equipment, equipment justification to improve performance Work with design engineering on DFX (design for excellence) to include: design for cost, design for test, design for manufacturability, and design for assembly Work with other relevant departments to determine estimated costs, run time, cost reduction and close the feedback loop Liaise with suppliers on manufacturing process

Desired Skills:

Strong experience in developing processes, lean cell design and consumables manufacturing.

  • Experience with dispensing aqueous and solvent-based materials and material science/surface modification.*

Experience in the conversion of small-scale R&D processes into commercially viable large-scale operations

Experience in various project management tools, design tools and statistical analysis tools to ensure the delivery of robust, reliable and accurate processes to routine manufacturing. Must be able to design effective experiments (DOE) followed by thorough data analysis. Strong collaborative and team work attributes Excel at troubleshooting, developing corrective solutions and completing projects on schedule Hands-on

Required Skills & experience: BS/MS Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering. Must have demonstrated the ability to successfully work within cross-functional process development teams and drive projects to completion. Must be familiar with a broad range of manufacturing processes, experience with high volume and automated assembly systems is required. A minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience

  • Analyzes product specifications, and clarifies product requirements and manufacturing aspects with accountable R&D, Engineering and/or Product Management.* Develops and calculates product modifications needed to increase efficiency of production, and contributes to re-engineering.* Provides detailed information on product specifications and on pieces and parts needed for product completion.* Plans equipment layout, tools and IT programs needed, and designs or contributes to design the manufacturing workflow. Cooperates in these aspects with other respective Engineers.* Analyzes manufacturing sequences during pilot series and test and analyzes manufacturability of pre-series samples. May recommend product changes and implements production amendments. * Conducts improvements projects on site or unit level, and liaises with other engineering functions, external vendors or service providers. * Ensures appropriate process and product documentation.
